about 'Sabrina Segment (Remix)'
From Lucaa:
"Sabrina Segment was written by accident. My partner at the time was a producer and making music for a drag documentary about a young black drag queen defying poverty to do what she loved, her name was Sabrina. I watched her tell her story and immediately connected with her. I too was and am queer, young, a minority, and knows what it is like to be without (in my case, unhoused).
Throughout the years, Sabrina has transformed into a bit of a New York City Indigenous anthem. It's a song that tells the tale of far too many native girls who have dreams that are cut short because the system overlooks us. Yet, our voices and spirits continue to burn brightly. Beginning with my family/ancestral song, this remix of "Sabrina Segment" hits hard with more fire, more bass (haha), and more of a warrior spirit because it is time for us all to fight for our land, sovereignty, and voices. For this remix I really wanted to show the world what an Afro-Indigenous 2spirit femme producer can do - lemme cook!
I am honored to have paired up with Siyowin Peters, an LA based model and artist on the album art. She does notable paintings and prints raising awareness for MMIW.
Through our art we are not just making art or releasing a single, we are unleashing the continuation of a movement."

biography
Originally from the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina but currently living between LA, NYC and Richmond, VA; Lucaa (she/they) is the brainchild of singer/producer Stepha, who is a 2 spirit Afro-Indigenous artist from A Ni Sa Ho Ni (Cherokee - Blue/Medicine clan) and Arapaho ancestry. Formerly half of the duo ‘Uruguay’, Lucaa’s genre-bending indie/alt-pop brand of music features raw and deceptively deep songwriting that pulls from their experiences as a young model in NYC, and being a queer BIPOC artist.
At a young age, Lucaa remembers listening to their father (who was a backup singer for Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire, and Michael Jackson) and mother (a trained opera singer) singing around the house. Now, Lucaa takes a grungier approach to alt-pop, with influences harnessed from Radiohead, Billie Eilish, Willow, girl in red, and Phoebe Bridgers. With organic production led by natural intuition and vocals reminiscent of a lullaby, Lucaa’s brand of raw and emotive music is an expression of both their innerworkings and their culture.
Lucaa has always infused fashion and music into their art, shining a light on the two-spirit indigenous experience within the queer community and beyond. Working closely with their community to bring indigenous representation and visibility to the music industry, they have partnered with some of the largest indigenous brands and change-makers (Notorious Cree, Thunder Voice, Ginew, NDN Girls Book Club, EMME Studio). They are also an ambassador for 4KINSHIP’s Indigenous Futures 4Ever non-profit, a sustainable art wear brand that supports and amplifies the voices of up-and-coming indigenous creatives.
Lucaa's career is growing quickly. In just a few months they have performed at SXSW as an official artist, shot international branding campaigns for Leica and TurboTax, collaborated with Grammy-nominated producer Rob Kleiner (Labrinth, Billie Eilish, Euphoria soundtrack), and their music has been featured on national Cable Television (CBS’s 'FBI’), One's To Watch, and Apple Music's New in Pop and New in Alternative official playlists. Most recently, Lucaa was featured in Vogue Japan's October Edition (print) and appeared in WWD, The New York Times, and Dua Lipa's publication Service95. Lucaa also recently played the We Found New Music showcase in LA which helped launch Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa and Sigrid's careers, and has many exciting anouncments on the horizon.
