about 'hinge'
From Lucaa:
"This is the final single before the release of my debut EP. And in a way, it is the embodiment of where I have landed after a rather tumultuous journey. "Hinge" represents my maturity and appreciation of self development. I am finally at peace with all the unique elements that make up me: my sexuality, culture, neurodiversity, family, quirks, and inner workings. And with that acknowledgement of self I am finally able to let go of my depreciation and in its stead experience the true love that I have been longing for.

So, I would say that "Hinge" is a love poem; it is befitting that it is being released during Pride because I wanted to write a song that embodies what queer love feels like to me. The comforts, steadiness, breaths of fresh air; you can feel the sentiment of this song within the beachy guitar washes, breathy choral flourishes and steady repetitious strumming of the bass. "Hinge" is a pause in time, it is to be in sudden happiness and safety for 3 minutes. While I wish I could live in these feelings for the rest of my life, I am content with knowing that I am experiencing them here and now and with you."

biography
Originally from the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina but currently living between LA, NYC and Richmond, VA; Lucaa (she/they) is the brainchild of singer/producer Stepha, who is a 2 spirit Afro-Indigenous artist from A Ni Sa Ho Ni (Cherokee - Blue/Medicine clan) and Arapaho ancestry. Formerly half of the duo ‘Uruguay’, Lucaa’s genre-bending indie/alt-pop brand of music features raw and deceptively deep songwriting that pulls from their experiences as a young model in NYC, and being a queer BIPOC artist.

At a young age, Lucaa remembers listening to their father (who was a backup singer for Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire, and Michael Jackson) and mother (a trained opera singer) singing around the house. Now, Lucaa takes a grungier approach to alt-pop, with influences harnessed from Radiohead, Billie Eilish, Willow, girl in red, and Phoebe Bridgers. With organic production led by natural intuition and vocals reminiscent of a lullaby, Lucaa’s brand of raw and emotive music is an expression of both their innerworkings and their culture.

Lucaa has always infused fashion and music into their art, shining a light on the two-spirit indigenous experience within the queer community and beyond. Working closely with their community to bring indigenous representation and visibility to the music industry, they have partnered with some of the largest indigenous brands and change-makers (Notorious Cree, Thunder Voice, Ginew, NDN Girls Book Club, EMME Studio). They are also an ambassador for 4KINSHIP’s Indigenous Futures Fund, a sustainable art wear brand that supports and amplifies the voices of up-and-coming indigenous creatives.

Lucaa's career is growing quickly. In just a few months they have performed at SXSW as an official artist, shot an international branding campaign for Leica, collaborated with Grammy-nominated producer Rob Kleiner (Labrinth, Billie Eilish, Euphoria soundtrack), and their music has been featured on national Cable Television (CBS’s 'FBI’) and One's To Watch, and Apple Music's New in Pop and New in Alternative official playlists. Lucaa also played the We Found New Music showcase in LA which helped launch Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa and Sigrid's careers.
